Let Me Introduce Myself

My name is Tom Slepicka, and I live in Iowa, USA, with my wife, Maggie, and our daughters, Lily and Maisie.

I graduated from culinary school in my hometown of Brno, located in the Czech Republic. I have spent a large part of my life in the food industry, holding chef and managerial positions. I am a former catering owner and restaurateur in both the United States and the Czech Republic, as well as a former culinary instructor at Kirkwood College and former head chef of the National Czech & Slovak Cooking School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I’m the founder, president, and CEO of the CookingHub Foundation (a 501c3 public charity) operating www.cookinghub.com (a recipe, educational, and social platform that fights hunger). I am also a food writer for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, a food blogger, a recipe creator, an independent culinary instructor, and a consultant for non-profits, restaurants, and hotels.

I gained a lot of experience during my time in the food industry, but through it all, my passion for food was always what was most important. My mission is to share with you my proven, restaurant-style recipes for tasty meals from all around the world. My expertise covers worldwide cuisines, but I especially enjoy Italian, French, Asian, American, and, of course, Czech and Slovak cuisine.

All my recipes are structured to make them accessible to all home cooks, at every skill level and age. My goal is to create recipes that people from all over the world will be able to master and enjoy in the most effective and efficient way. And finally, I want to share guidance and tips on how to prepare meals from real, not processed, ingredients, so everyone will be able to benefit from a healthier diet.
