Deep frying is a cooking method where food is fully submerged in hot fat, typically oil. This creates a crispy outer layer almost instantly, while the moisture inside the food turns to steam, cooking it from the inside out.
While dedicated deep fryers are convenient, you can also deep fry in a pot on the stovetop with a deep-fry thermometer to monitor the oil temperature. The ideal temperature varies depending on the food and recipe, but 350°F is a common target. Deep frying is a hot-fat cooking method that delivers crispy, golden-brown results.
